When the repair can’t be finished in time, the code allows a temporary certification backed by a signed contractor agreement, cash security for the work, and a buyer who accepts responsibility for the fix (§ 18-504). The obligation runs with the land, so it can’t be waived between buyer and seller. Sell to a buyer who takes the house as-is, and that repair can become the buyer’s job after closing instead of yours before it.
